Jim: We're entered in the Texaco International All Stage Rally in Barbados in May of 1997. [Ed. Note: Check out our coverage!] My co-driver will be Charles Bradley who has experience in pace-note rallies like this. It will be my first International rally and should be good experience for the future. Q: And what about the US PRO Rally events? What's next for you there? Jim: Group 5 in 1998! We're taking the 1997 season off in order to prepare the car for Group 5 competition. The rules for Production-class were changed in ways that really put the Prelude at a big disadvantage. So it's time to take the next step up to Group 5 competition.. Unlike Production, Group 5 allows almost unrestricted modifications to the car so we'll be doing quite a lot to it. First thing is to lighten things up quite a bit. We'll be ripping out most of the things that production-class made us keep in, like the rear seats, door panels, and interior trim. We expect to decrease the weight from its current 2930 lbs. down to around 2650 lbs. Next, we'll pump up the horses by adding some engine candy. Our goal is to have close to 290 horses by the time we're done. Getting all of that power to the ground with a 2wd configuration could prove difficult... Hard core Honda Prelude fans should check back here often for details on our progress! |
